Ever since it’s launch, Reliance Jio has managed to be a part of the news and taken up the telecom industry to a completely new level.
According to some recent reports released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) data , Reliance Jio has managed to adds 4.78 Million new users in May as while India’s largest telecom operator , Bharti Airtel could manage to get 2.09 Million users.
Visitor location register (VLR) , is a key metric which tells us the number of active subscribers on a network, revealed that 96.87% of the users were active for Airtel, 94.02% for Vodafone, 101.17% for Idea Cellular and 75.73% for Reliance Jio which indicates that even though Jio has been very successful in urban areas , a lot of work still needs to be done to spread the network all over India.
Talking about the market share, TRAI revealed that Bharti Airtel continues to remain the largest operator with a market share of 23.59% with a total of 278 million customers. Jio has increased its market share from owning 9.58% in April to 9.94% in May and has 117 million customers.
Meanwhile, BSNL has managed to add 1.35 million new subscribers, followed by Vodafone India with 1.3 million and Idea Cellular 0.19 million. The data says that the regulator received a total of 5.37 million received for mobile number portability (MNP).
