According to latest information, BSNL is going to set up around 1070 BSNL Wi-Fi hotspots, also being summoned as the 4G Plus Stations. These hotspots will be set up in the rural areas of Kerala. This is an initiative to reach out to customers in the rural areas of Kerala.
P T Mathew, Kerala Circle CGM of BSNL has mentioned in his statement to the reporters that these stations would be set up by the next six months. This mission is being supported by the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF). Every user will be provided free 4GB data download per month for free of cost, once the implementation becomes successful.
There are a sum total of 140 Wi-Fi sites along with 418 Access points already working with Mobile Data offload facility. This is already being implemented in some prominent places of the state. The public sector also seems to plan an introduction of camera surveillance solutions in Kerala.
The camera surveillance system is expected to be launched in Kollam and Thrissur Districts in near future. This mission is also expected to be helpful for the police in their investigations.
There is information that BSNL might be thinking of associating with the Smart City project of government. This will enable the company to provide broadband or FTTH connections in upper primary and lower primary schools of the state.
The officials said that the Company is also focussing on getting the Adhaar number of its 95 lakh BSNL mobile customers linked to their connections. They have also mentioned that Kerala is one of the top ranking states in the terms of data usage in our country. Besides, the 4G roll out can be expected by the end of this year.
